Category Archives: Joblessness

So my wife and I just moved to a new city. We both had stable jobs where we were, making more money than either one of us had made before, but it was in a crappy city, so I found a new, better job here. We both quit our jobs and moved. Well, as some of you out there may know, there’s this economic crisis going on… and so my wife can’t find a job now.

It’s been two months, almost to the day, since she’s been out of work. She looks daily on every major search site, local newspaper,  Employment Security Commission, and probably has 80 or 90 resumes out there. She’s even had about four interviews. Nothing. Just today she got a call from a company where she’d interviewed last week, to tell her she did not get the job. Ouch. Her spirits are crushed.

So here we are, in a new city, with two dogs, two cats, and a 12 year old niece who lives with us. Don’t get me wrong, we live comfortably, we have cell phones, digital cable and high-speed internet, we’re renting a nice house… but it’s getting to the point where we may have to cut some of those costs. What goes first? One of the cell phones? The digital cable? (trust me, the internet will be the last thing to go…)

I make no points here. Just wanted to let it all out. Our personal life is suffering because my wife is constantly worried about money and feeling guilty because she can’t find a job. Then again, we moved here because of me, so am I to blame? Or should we just blame the “recession”?

Sigh…
